3 watch checks
Well, I have to say that I didn’t love it.
It’s very action packed, with lots of chase and fight scenes, but no real emotion. I actually thought it was more like watching a video game than a movie. (In fact, I think the Lara Croft movies, which were based on a video game were better than this one!).
Angelina’s performance was pretty flat (and her blonde hair in this movie rivals Collin Farrell’s blond hair in Alexander). Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor give solid performances with weak material.
There’s nothing particularly inventive or interesting plotwise or in the effects. It is interesting timing for the movie, being slightly more relevant in this day and age than probably anyone realized until those spies were arrested a few weeks ago. But that’s really the only interesting thing about the movie. The plot has been done better in a score of movies (the Bourne Movies, The Manchurian Candidate, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, etc).
I’d give this one a pass (or at least wait for the DVD).
